andBeyond Ngala Tented Camp – Brand New

Ngala Tented Lodge

Welcoming Guests to a Brand New andBeyond Ngala Tented Camp

We are delighted to announce that andBeyond Ngala Tented Camp has now officially opened its doors following the extensive camp rebuild. The overall essence is undeniably African, with warm, earthy tones and raw organic materials used throughout. The lighting, window and floor treatments, as well as the shapes of the furniture, all draw inspiration from the surrounding bushveld landscape (for example, woven leather chandeliers hang beautifully in the guest area).

The tented suites are distanced from each other to allow privacy, and there is a quiet massage/yoga sala where guests can unwind.

The camp exudes a serene feeling of peace and tranquillity and was constructed with a light footprint. Each of the six ensuite safari tents sits on a raised platform and was cleverly designed to incorporate the existing trees, thereby minimising environmental impact. The tent walls, floors and roofs all use double-lined canvas with insulation in the middle, thereby reducing the electricity costs associated with heating and cooling the tent. All lights are LEDs and the air conditioners are energy efficient.

These careful considerations for the environment make andBeyond Ngala Tented Camp the greenest camp in our South African portfolio! The entire project was also completed using local labourers from the communities surrounding andBeyond Phinda Private Game Reserve (only two carpenters were brought in externally).

DON’T FORGET: andBeyond Ngala Safari Lodge also had its own refurb — the roofs of the guest areas and four guest cottages were completely rebuilt and re-thatched. Plans are also in place for the Safari Suite to be renovated by the end of 2012; it will be turned into a family suite with two separate rooms. Watch this space!
